My Story
Dear Donor:
I am Monica. I am 37 years old with a loving husband and 6 ½ year old son. I am Monica who has what appears to be everything in the world to live for, a care free life filled with good friends and wonderful family members who would do anything for me and I would do anything for them. My life would be filled with promise of future endeavors, possibly more children, a dog or cat; you know everything that makes life joyful. If only I were not struggling, fighting and doing everything in my power to simply remain alive those blessing would be mine. Instead, I am in and out of the hospital, fatigued, crying for my son and trying my best to get beyond my present circumstances because in real life, I am battling chronic kidney disease and kidney failure. It’s incredibly tiresome and scary to live on the edge of life and death which is what I am forced to do every time I am hooked up to that dialysis machine. Anything could go wrong at any time is the sentiment I live with particularly after witnessing a good friend of mine die in a chair near me while on the dialysis machine. It is all too clear in my mind how fragile life is and how it should not be taken for granted; how little time we have to share with those we love. My son constantly weights on my mind when I am in the hospital. I wonder whether or not I will be alive to see him to maturity or if I will leave him here in this world out of reach of my arms. It’s all too overwhelming sometimes. One thing I know for sure is that I am not going to just lay down and roll over and succumb to this heinous disease without putting up the fight of a lifetime and I mean literally a fight of my life. Maybe I won’t win, but it will not be for the lack of trying. The one thing I need to survive and regain my health is a transplant which is why I decided to share my story here. My most sincere hope is for you to read it and then help me. You can do it! It is in your power to save my life and I am asking you personally to please do it now. Time for me is fleeting. Please help me.
What I am asking is for you to join the many thousands of other people who made the choice to become living donors. It has been widely proven for decades that human beings can live their full natural lives with one healthy kidney and with that knowledge many thousands of people have chosen to answer the pleas of dying people like me by becoming their living donors. They shared the gift of life with them and now walk through their own lives with the GREATEST of honors for being a life saver. I am asking you to please help me in the same way. Please!
My blood type is O+ and I am listed at Scrips Transplant Center in San Diego and Mayo Clinic in Arizona..
Very Sincerely Yours,
Monica
